Founded in 2003, Monkeysoop is a progressive/grunge/comedy band that balances dynamic guitar melodies with grunge-pop vocals. Writer/guitarist/vocalist Jerry Connor and bassist/drummer/vocalist Erica Missey vowed never to make the same album twice in Monkeysoop. Every effort by this band is its own musical exploration in diversity, attracting an impressive roster of musicians like drummer extraordinare Terry Bozzio, guitarist giant Michael Angelo Batio, Impaler vocalist Bill Lindsey, Omen/Phantom X vocalist Kevin Goocher, drummer Snowy Shaw (King Diamond) and guitarist Chris Poland (Megadeth) to lend their talents to various Monkeysoop recordings.
The funds earned from Monkeysoop’s song “Kendall” go to aid the American Heart Association in honor of Jerry's brother, Kendall Cain, who died of an undiagnosed heart condition in 2003. The funds earned from Monkeysoop's song "Crazy" go to groups that aid the homeless population in the US.
Monkeysoop received Grammy consideration in 2005 for "Best Rock Performance.” The band's music is featured in the television series "The Drive TV" and various independent films and documentaries.
While signed with Sonic Wave International, Inc., early in their career, Monkeysoop cranked out instrumental, progressive rock with a vengeance through five albums - MONKEYSOOP (debut), COUNTERCLOCKWISE, NUNS' NIGHT OUT, EXPERIMETAL, and EXPERIMETAL II. Under Tate Music Group, Monkeysoop released "GRAY MATTER" in 2013.
Signalling a new direction for the band and done almost entirely in the comedy/punk/rock vein, Monkeysoop released its seventh CD, DARNITALL, in November, 2014, its first effort done with the new label, Burning V Records. Continuing the new sound, Monkeysoop released its eighth CD, ZOMBIE MOSH, in June, 2015, and YEAR OF THE MONKEY, in June, 2016, and embarked on a 13-date US/Canada tour on June 16th.
Monkeysoop's tenth release, WHERE THE TRUTH LIES, dropped in February, 2017, and the band toured that summer in the US and Canada in support of the new album. WTTL once again signalled another change in direction for the band with a heavier, more serious tone and featuring singer Erica Missey on nearly every track as the vocalist, prompting thoughts of a new band name in support of the new sound.
Monkeysoop's founding members shifted focus to their band Hellgrimm in 2018 but have recently considered reforming Monkeysoop and resuming live shows starting later this year.
